Guest blogger, Liv, tries out Trilogy’s Ultra Hydrating Body Cream
I am one of those people who, during the colder months, feels perpetually cold (unless attired in
my full thermal + merino + sheepskin boot-ensemble and crouched by the nearest heat source.
Very chic.). So I don’t greet winter with a whole heap of enthusiasm. (Aside from a smidgen of
excitement when it really rains – like thunders down – and I’m cosy in bed, the cats are inside,
the roof isn’t leaking, and I haven’t left anything outside that is going to rust, rot, flood or
otherwise be irreversibly damaged by the downpour.) (And I guess I don’t wholly mind the
opportunity to don some comfty leather boots… (Detest the accompanying tights though, ugh!
Must be some hangover from school uniform days…)).
Blah blah blah. Where I am getting to with all this is simply that, when the weather takes a turn
for the worst, it’s all about rugging up and, if you are like me, all but forgetting (and therefore
neglecting) the skin that can’t be seen. Come warmer days, this often means a frightening
unveiling of dehydrated legs and arms (or more, of the skin thereon; dehydrated legs and arms
would themselves be … disturbing. Raisin-like.).
Twinkle twinkle…
There is no justification for this. Not when there are deliciously hydrating products about like
Trilogy’s Ultra Hydrating Body Cream. In addition to avoiding chalky-looking limbs, you will
“subtly shimmer” if you care to spend a minute or two shivering through a generous application
of this yummy product. I love anything with a bit of sparkle, and thanks to natural mineral mica,
this hydrating cream provides the finest dusting of twinkle, or iridescence, that juuuuust
captures the eye without making you look like the Tin Man. I haven’t trialled Trilogy’s Instant
Bronzing Gel so I can’t comment on its sparkle levels, but I reckon a combination shimmering-
hydrating-bronzing cream could be an absolute winner.
“Ultra” hydrating
Not only does Trilogy’s Ultra Hydrating Body Cream glimmer, it also claims to “hydrate and
nourish” (courtesy of evening primrose, jojoba and, Trilogy’s signature ingredient, certified
organic rosehip oil), “soften and protect” (thanks to sunflower oil and New Zealand Manuka
honey), and “brightens” (à la licorice). All very good.
For me, this cream absorbs well and left my skin feeling velvety soft and only slightly dewy,
which I like. I do have to chuckle a wee bit about window-dressing terminology like “Ultra”,
synonyms for which include “especially”, “particularly”, “even more”, and “very”. There must be
consumer-marketing data that demonstrates how the addition of words like “ultra” drives sales.
But the (Fair Trading Act) pedant in me wonders whether it’s really necessary, meaningful, or
indeed measurable. (Once a lawyer, always a lawyer…?!)
“Ultra” fragrant
So how does it smell? This is quite a strong number. Trilogy describes it as having a
“refreshing fragrance”, but it won’t be everyone’s cup of herbal tea. The licorice definitely
dominates (think aniseed), together with a citrusy overlay pungent enough to deter the bravest
mosquito (potentially making this a multi-tasking genius should this quip actually have some
merit).
What it’ll set you back
RRP $29.90 for a generous 150ml tube.
