Guest blogger, Alice, gives us the run down on Claire Turnbull’s latest book…

Dubbed the “ultimate guide to feeling good and looking fabulous”, Feel Good for Life by nutritionist Claire Turnbull is the one stop shop for ideas and inspiration for happier, healthier living. We could all use a pick me up sometimes so this book served as a timely reminder that my body is, in fact, a temple!

This colourful glossy book covers what Claire deems to be the six components of “feeling good”:

1.     eat nourishing food that makes you feel good
2.     keep active and get results
3.     sleep, rest and have time outside
4.     manage your mind;
5.     connect with your soul; and
6.     have fun – be an awesome kind of healthy.

Now there are plenty of motivational health and wellbeing texts in the market, especially targeted at women who are particularly susceptible to “quick fixes” and always looking to improve. But developing healthy habits is always going to be a process and examining your food and lifestyle choices can be rather confronting. I found Feel Good for Life to be friendly and approachable, a text that I could consult over and over again. It is a handy book to have on hand for those days when I am ready to make healthy changes and/or ready to get back on the horse! Education is the key to better informed choices. All you can do is start every day with the best intentions and to slip up, is only human nature.

Check out a snippet of the text here which gives you a feel for the book as well as a recipe for date and orange “bliss” balls. Claire’s website and blog is also a hub of information and recipes.

One of the best tips that I took away from Feel Good for Life is to add homemade sliced cabbage slaw to my meals and/or salads where possible. Given my sedentary lifestyle (desk jockey here), I have to be quite careful about how much I eat and cabbage slaw is a great way to bulk up my meals and feel fuller without adding many extra calories. Cabbage slaw also adds freshness to my meals to help me feel light and refreshed after eating. I try to have a large air-proof container of finely sliced cabbage in the fridge – if it’s all prepared then you will be much more inclined to use it and I promise it stays fresh for days!

Now if only I could break my snacking habit…and curb my sweet tooth!

Feel Good for Life by Claire Turnbull is available from bookstores for RRP NZ$30
