Guest blogger, Alice, tries out the BB Cream by NZ brand Oasis Beauty…
Have you heard of the current “activewear” trend?
For those of you looking bewildered, this refers to the wearing of fitness clothes outside of the gym, and was sparked by this viral YouTube clip. Now I don’t know about you, but yoga pants are damn comfy and perfect for looking cute while running errands so I am totally onboard!
A fresh faced complexion goes hand in hand with “activewear” but for those of us not brave enough, Oasis BB creams are a low fuss multi-tasking product for those of us constantly on the go. Oasis BB creams claim to be four products in one: your daily moisturiser, mineral foundation, anti-ageing/skin correcting treatment and sunscreen. The BB Creams contain no silicone, fragrance or talc. They are paraben free and, most importantly, cruelty free.
I was sent The Monroe which Oasis says is their best selling shade. The Monroe is best suited to light-medium skin tones and offers a full coverage, as does The Hepburn, whereas The Bardot offers mid coverage. I inquired with Oasis as to whether their product was a BB cream or a foundation and they responded: “Oasis BB cream was made specifically for Kiwi women who told us they wanted much more coverage than imported BB creams”.
The Monroe BB cream offers:
- natural full coverage mineral foundation with a matte finish;
- broad spectrum SPF coverage; and
- helps to correct skin imperfections over time with vitamins and natural actives including vitamins B5, C and E, pomegranate, red grape skin extract, hyaluronic acid, jojoba, rosehip, calendula and apricot kernel.
While good for all skin types, Oasis states that The Monroe is especially suited for normal to oily and combination skin types, and recommended for sensitive skin. For ladies with dry skin, The Monroe can be applied over a day moisturiser, serum or primer.
After using The Monroe for a couple of weeks I am of the following opinion: while some ladies may consider and use The Monroe as a full coverage foundation, I struggle with the idea of achieving full coverage when there is the choice of only two shades (The Hepburn is the other full cover foundation and a medium-darker shade). I am very particular about using the correct shade for my skintone because as you know, the wrong shade of foundation is never flattering.
This is why I think The Monroe is more of a low maintenance “tinted moisturiser” style product for those times you don’t want to be bare faced but also don’t need to make a fuss. Having said that, I have also used The Monroe layered with my BB cream, foundation and powder regime, as an added extra to achieve high level coverage. I found that The Monroe went on smoothly for me using my usual liquid foundation brush and had the thickness and consistency of a foundation.
Oasis BB creams were made with the average Kiwi woman in mind so many of you may find this product ticks all the boxes. Oasis BB creams are now stocked by many leading pharmacies so you can try the shades first. Make up choices are very personal so I would be interested to hear the opinions of other Oasis BB cream users. So do drop me a line below!
