Soultime Skin Care is a Hibiscus Coast based curator of exquisite natural skin care products designed to nourish the soul as well as the skin. Founder and formulator Meg Baillie, is a registered nurse and certified aromatherapist so unsurprisingly, Soultime’s handcrafted formulas are based on the healing art of aromatherapy.

Meg sent me a bottle of her pomegranate and borage serum ($32.50 for 30mls), a hydrating serum suitable for mature skin. The product is housed in a simple dark blue glass bottle with your usual “serum dispensing” pump. The serum itself is oil based (as opposed to water based) and is a beautiful blend of olive squalane, pomegranate oil, borage oil, vitamin E, ylang-ylang and neroli. Most of us are familiar with pomegranate as those pink juicy seeds, but what is borage? Borage is a plant and its flowers and leaves, as well as the oil from its seeds, are commonly used for medicinal purposes. Borage seed oil is used to treat skin disorders including eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and neurodermatitis.

While my skin is “maturing” with every day that passes, my skin isn’t “mature” as such. I found the pomegranate and borage serum to be suitably nourishing for my 24 year old skin nonetheless and while being oil based, was not overly greasy. Unless you have particular skincare concerns to target, a hydrating product should be a staple in all of our routines. My skin seems to drink this product up and I really enjoyed using it, both morning and night. Having said that, as an oil based serum, it is probably most suitable for use in the evening – depending on your skin’s needs of course.

Its strong yet un-offensive scent is hard to describe, a somewhat floral herbal hybrid. It could quite possibly bear the scent of borage, but I wouldn’t know where to begin describing what borage smells like!

At the end of the day, I think that $32.50 for a serum is a steal if you are looking for a nourishing, oil based treatment. It’s a simple product, made with love, and does what it claims.

Soultime Skin Care products contain no parabens, polyethylene glycols, petrochemicals, sodium lauryl sulphate, artificial fragrances or colour additives. Soultime’s aromatherapy based skincare and body products can be viewed online here, and check out their baby product line while you’re at it.
