Our fab guest blogger, Alice, tries out some goodies from Homespun Holistics…

Homespun Holistics is a home-grown brand offering creative oils and balms specifically targeted at various home, work, study, relaxation or sport centred purposes. Think “meditation, yoga and mood”, “sleep and stress”, “aches, pains and sports” as well as male and female products. They also do a study balm! Where was this while I was slaving away over the books?

It just so happened I was having a crazy work week when Jenna was kind enough to send me a little Homespun Holistics care package: their Comfrey Care and Repair, 100% Natural Perfumes in Rose blend and the Spa Essentials Massage Oil in Calm blend.

I am head over heels with their Comfrey Care and Repair balm, an “everything balm” with a coconut oil, olive oil and beeswax base. The namesake ingredient, allantoin, is a natural active botanical substance derived from the comfrey plant, helps with cell production and repair. This balm also contains the essential oils of marjoram, roman chamomile, rosewood, peppermint and vetiver. Scent-wise, I find the peppermint notes really come through and is both uplifting and calming. The balm itself is very thick and nourishing so I love using this on my hands to help with my calluses and cuticles. It’s also lovely on knees and elbows. Comfrey Care and Repair has found a home for itself in my handbag and I find myself reaching for it often.

While the market is saturated with “everything balms”, the market for natural perfumes is still emerging. Homespun Holistics offers a line of 100% Natural Perfumes in vanilla, rose and sandalwood, each packaged in a pulse point roll-on bottle. I tried the rose blend which combines rose, bergamot and ylang ylang pure essential oils in an apricot kernel oil base. I am a fan of rose but the addition of citrusy bergamot didn’t work for me.

Apricot kernel oil is also the base ingredient in the Spa Essentials Massage Oils which is offered in the following blends: calm, uplifting, pregnancy, muscle and women’s. Calm is a blend of lavender, bergamot and geranium essential oils and claims to help to alleviate stress and anxiety and to help you wind down after a busy day. Now any day that I am privy to a massage is a good day but the product itself is lovely as well! Bergamot goes nicely with lavender – the scent is light and zesty, fairly subtle and doesn’t linger. I was pleasantly surprised by this product. It is easily absorbed, gives a lot of “slip” for massage purposes but doesn’t leave the skin greasy – just nicely moisturised which is perfect since I use this as a body oil as well.

Homespun Holistics comes across as a brand underpinned with love and knowledge ,and indeed their products were a pleasure to trial. I would definitely recommend checking out Homespun Holistics’ website as a starting point – there are so many bespoke products. The yoga balm and the meditation balm caught my eye for general wellbeing, and the “sleep well” pillow spritz and “headache ease” roll on for those days that you need a little extra help! I also really appreciate that the website is a wealth of information with every product and key ingredient accompanied by detailed explanations – when online shopping for natural products, it helps you to know what to expect.
